My name is Martin, I have just received my Cajon. I decided to go for the Schlagwerk CP404BLK Cajon (Black Edition) and I love the build quality and so far what I hear with the sounds I am making as a beginner. I decided to get a cajon when I saw one over the Christmas period being played by a good French friend of mine in France. He knew that I passed my Grade 2 on the drums a few years ago but I’ve not played again since due to work! I did not take him up on his offer as there was an audience and I didn’t want to embarrass myself ? I’m glad I didn’t now because it’s not as easy as people make it look (I’m looking at you Felipe ?). I am very much looking forward to learning all styles!
Why the Cajon
I have decided that the Cajon is perfect for me because not only do I LOVE the sounds and tones it generates, but it’s a lot easier to carry around than a drum kit (even an electric one). I had always seen them but didn’t know much about them, I only knew them as a drum box until I started researching. I was recommended to go on the Thomann.de website (and what a great website that is) but trying to choose a Cajon and not even knowing anything about them was a risk, but it paid off.
The people that I visit in France (the very talented ones) play a lot of folk music and the Cajon sounds amazing with it (I want to introduce brushes there when I get good enough), so my goal is to be good enough to sit up there with them playing whilst being watched by wine intoxicated public ?
Anyway, looking forward to starting this journey this evening and impressing my wife (finger’s crossed).
